No doubt that Mesotherapy has been receiving extensive media attention from many magazines and television shows. It is becoming more and more of a “hot topic”.
Mesotherapy is a technique developed in France in the 1950s by the renowned practitioner Dr Michel Pistor. It was recognised as a medical treatment by the French Academy of Medicine in 1987 and has since successfully been used in many countries all around the world. Doctor Michel Pistor himself defined it as “Little, rarely and at the right place”. The North American experience began when Dr. Lionel Bissoon who learned the technique in France and later popularized it in America. Its cosmetic applications, particularly for removal of fat and cellulite have recently received significant attention in the United States. Today 40,000 practitioners across the USA and Europe use Mesotherapy to deliver medication directly to site, unaffected by digestion or travelling through and being delivered by the bloodstream.
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic medicine treatment which uses multiple injections into the mid layer of the skin where they can deliver the maximum benefit. It is important to note that Mesotherapy is classified as a non-invasive technique, which speaks to both the micro nature of the needles used and the shallow depth of their penetration.
In mesotherapy practitioner uses very small doses of compounded medications that are administered in specific areas, depending on the condition being treated. The medicines and plant extracts used are typically obtained from compounding pharmacies in most countries in the world.
